I’m now certified in the “hottest role in data analytics.”
I haven’t seen any data to back up Tableau’s claim about the hotness of the role. I sat the exam late last fall, just prior to the closing of the beta period. Today, I got a notification that I successfully passed the exam. I’m also a verifiable early adopter, one of the first 1000 people to earn the distinction. Here’s some proof:
I mostly wrote the exam as a short-term challenge to myself: I paid the fee on November 9 and wrote on November 18. I skimmed the publicly available exam prep guide, did the two practice exercises therein and figured I was good to go. I was right. I took the same approach to the GRE years ago, with a similarly acceptable outcome.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t consider financial gain in deciding whether to take on the exam. Perhaps Tableau (and its parent company, Salesforce) are also motivated by money? All figures ahead in USD.
Tableau brought in $1.5 billion to Salesforce in fiscal year 2021 (a little more than 10% of what Salesforce paid to acquire Tableau). Now that the beta’s over, the exam costs $250 to write, and Tableau offers a prep course (which includes the exam registration fee) for a cool $1000.If you use Tableau regularly (and use it well), the prep course is, IMHO, a waste of your money.
